Manager of Safety

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for a Technical Services Administrator to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

The Manager of Safety is responsible for managing, monitoring, implementing, training, and ensuring compliance of the health and safety programs for Valley Electric Association, Inc., (Cooperative) and its subsidiaries. The work will entail direct interaction with managers, supervisors and all outside and inside employees on various health and safety projects, procedures, and programs. This position is also responsible for representing the Cooperative with external regulators and during routine audits, and for assisting other departments with environmental projects.

Qualifications

Education: associate degree in occupational safety and health, science, or engineering discipline required or equivalent education and work experience that will satisfy the requirements of this position.

Experience: A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in safety, accident/incident prevention, industrial hygiene, loss control, process and production improvement and safety education are required. Must have experience in industrial incident investigations and written mitigation plans. Must have working knowledge of safety standards applying to line work. Previous experience in the utility industry or construction background is preferred.

Training, Licensure, Certifications: Certifications in a recognizable and acceptable safety professional training and/or industrial hygiene programs (CSP/CIH) required or must be obtained within one year of employment. Certified Loss Control Professional credential is preferred.

Job Knowledge: Must possess a comprehensive working knowledge of OSHA, DOT and Environmental and Hazard regulatory compliance requirements. Must have a working knowledge of RUS, NEC, NESC, NFPA, ANSI, ASTM, CGA, ASME, RESAP and other consensus standards. Must be able to interpret compliance and consensus standards to determine their impact upon VEA and its subsidiaries. Must have a comprehensive working knowledge in the principles of electricity and electrical circuits. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of safety, accident prevention and safety equipment. Must have knowledge of statistical procedures. Must be knowledgeable in electric utility or industrial equipment operations. Must have a working knowledge of Broadband Communication practices and Safety protocols.

Skills and Abilities: Position requires good oral and written communications skills. Must have the ability to work independently, perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description and be able to oversee and prioritize multiple assignments. Ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Must be flexible, organized, decisive, and able to take the initiative in problem-solving. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Driver's License. CDL preferred.
