Board members serve staggered three-year terms. Each year, two seats of the six-member Board are up for election by members. Directors are elected by and represent members within each of the six districts. One director is elected from each district.

Each year following the Annual Meeting, the Board elects a Board President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Board members receive a fixed sum for each meeting attended and mileage expense at the current IRS rate.

Board members are fiduciaries who steer the Association toward a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies and by making sure the Co-op has adequate resources to advance its mission. The VEA bylaws require the Board to be responsible for the business affairs of the Association. The Board hires the Chief Executive Officer and the Association’s General Counsel.

Typically, once a month on the fourth Thursday accept as otherwise requested by Board majority. Board meetings generally last six to eight hours.
