Supervisor of Lands & GIS

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for a Supervisor of Lands & GIS to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

Valley Electric Association, Inc., (VEA) is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120-line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations.  VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).

VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), Valley Communication Association (VCA), Valley Electric Services Company (VESC), and Valley Electric Energy Services (VEES).

VCA (Valley Communications Association), is a wholly owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and will offer commercial and residential optical fiber broadband service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit, to VEA members throughout Nevada.

The Supervisor of Lands & GIS will be responsible for decisions that involve the revision of policies and procedures necessary to achieve VEA’s objectives; and, the overall stewardship of the Cooperative’s Geographical Information System (GIS) database, permitting, right-of-ways, map creation, easements, fee title lands and water rights and the acquisition thereof. Please refer to the job description for the Supervisor of Lands & GIS.

Qualifications

Education: Candidate needs to have a four-year college degree in land surveying, geographical information systems, or related technical field, or a combination of education and experience. A professional survey license is preferred, but not required.

Experience: A minimum of five years related industry land surveying and/or right-of-way supervision experience required for this position. Experience with land surveying, easement law and right-of-way corridors. Experience with CAD and GIS programs. Alternative equivalencies to this experience and education may be considered appropriate and acceptable at the discretion of VEA.

Thorough knowledge of the following: related industry and standards of practice, safety compliance; federal and state laws and regulations, local knowledge of municipal requirements and relevant experience with Bureau of Land Management policies and processes. In depth knowledge of GIS utilization and applications is required. An understanding of standard database management is also required.
