Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for an Engineer I, II, or III to work at our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.
Valley Electric Association, Inc., (VEA) is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations. VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).
VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), Valley Communication Association (VCA), Valley Electric Services Company (VESC), and Valley Electric Energy Services (VEES).
VCA (Valley Communications Association), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and will offer commercial and residential optical fiber broadband service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit, to VEA members throughout Nevada.
This position is an entry level (Engineer I), intermediate level (Engineer II), or senior level (Engineer III) engineering position within Valley Electric’s Engineering Department and requires specialized skills and knowledge in electrical and power system engineering, and a willingness to learn from more senior engineers. This position is responsible for performing and overseeing specific engineering responsibilities in support of the Engineering Department and to improve and maintain the Cooperative’s transmission and distribution systems. This position will also coordinate engineering and technical support with the System Engineer, Planning Engineer and other departments throughout the Cooperative.

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering required. Alternative Bachelor of Science degrees with utility experience similar to the Key Responsibilities outlined in this job description will be considered.
Experience: Position level (Engineer I, II, or III) shall depend on the years of applicable engineering experience with an electric utility or consultant firm.
Knowledge: This position requires the application of engineering theory and practice in carrying out its responsibilities.
Abilities and Skills: Position requires good oral and written communications skills. Must have the ability to problem solve effectively and organize work to meet deadlines. Must have the ability to work independently, perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description and be able to handle and prioritize multiple assignments. Work requires attention to detail and the completion of reports, which require a high degree of accuracy and detail. Receives close supervision on new aspects of assignments. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Nevada Driver's License.
