Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) has an immediate opening for an Electrician to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

Valley Electric Association, Inc., (VEA) is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations.  VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).

VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), Valley Communication Association (VCA), Valley Electric Utility Services (VEUS), and Valley Electric Energy Services (VEES).

VCA (Valley Communications Association), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and will offer commercial and residential optical fiber broadband service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit, to VEA members throughout Nevada.

Education/Experience: Must be a current holder of a Journeyman Electrician Certificate from a state recognized Electrical Apprenticeship program. Must have the required technical expertise for residential and small commercial photovoltaic installations with five years of directly related experience installing photovoltaic systems.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical and electrical documents. Ability to effectively present information to others and provide clear direction and instruction to t others at the job site.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts common in construction. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to properly measure and mark distances.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal concurrently with abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Electrician must have the required technical expertise for residential and small commercial photovoltaic installations. Employee must be able to read construction plans. The employee must also understand electrical schematics, have knowledge of the NEC 2017, and be able to perform electrical connections. The employee must also know how to test, commission and troubleshoot PV systems. Employee must know how to track service/warranty tickets. Employee must be proficient in office technologies including Microsoft Office products. Employee must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Employee must have strong organizational skills, be self-motivated and trustworthy. Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers and vendors in a professional and courteous manner. Must be aware of State and Federal laws (OSHA) related to construction and safety. The employee must have the ability to possess a Medic First Aid Card (CPR inclusive). Must obtain and maintain an OSHA 30 Construction certification and Nevada OSHA PV Installers Certificate. NABCEP PV Installers Certification desired but not a requirement. NFPA 70E desired but not a requirement.

Must have and maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license and pass a pre-employment drug test as a condition of employment. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
