Pahrump, Nev. (Oct. 5, 2018) – Angela Evans of Valley Electric Association has been named CEO of the Cooperative, VEA Board President Ken Derschan announced today. Evans has served as Interim CEO since replacing the previous CEO, who left the company in early May.
“We are confident in Angela’s leadership and vision to serve the best interest of Valley’s members, employees and communities served,” said Derschan. “We are impressed with her commitment to community, sustainability and future of our Cooperative.”
Derschan said Angela exemplifies the combination of business acumen, strategic leadership and integrity that the Board demands, while also showing genuine compassion and interest for her employees, members and the community. “The Cooperative has a cohesive executive team that we are confident can lead VEA into the future,” he said.
An experienced utility executive, Evans was Chief Operating Officer of VEA before being named Interim CEO. Evans has been praised by Derschan for her leadership and moving the Cooperative forward in the right direction in her Interim role. She was hired as Executive Vice President of Operations for VEA in February 2017.
Evans has stressed that the Cooperative’s focus will always be on member-owners and delivering the most affordable, most reliable services whether that service be electric or communications.
“I am honored and humbled in being named CEO of Valley Electric Association,” said Evans. “I thank our Board of Directors for their support and confidence in me. I take great pride in the work that we do and in serving our members and communities.”
Evans served at the executive level at utilities in New Mexico, Texas and California for more than 18 years before joining Valley Electric Association in 2017. From 2011-16, she was Manager of Distribution Services & Maintenance Operations at the Imperial Irrigation District at Indio, Calif. In that capacity, Angela was in charge of energy asset management and ensured the development and implementation of asset strategies to facilitate Smart Grid. She was responsible for leading strategic planning focused on developing the District’s business model as a Utility of the Future and led high profile initiatives, including Community Solar and Advanced Metering Infrastructure.
Evans has also served in various capacities at utilities in New Mexico and Texas, including serving as the Director of Utility Operations for Albuquerque’s PNM (the largest electricity provider in New Mexico); and serving as the, Director of Service Excellence, Manager of Process Improvement, Senior Business Transformation Process Manager and Business Unit Manager for Texas-New Mexico Power Company in Texas.
A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Evans received her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of New Mexico.
