Cooperative’s theme: ‘Evolving to Meet Member Needs’
PAHRUMP, Nev. (March 15, 2017) – U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., will be the guest speaker April 22 at the annual meeting of Valley Electric Association (VEA).
Heller, a first-term senator from Carson City, currently serves on a number of key committees in the Senate, including the Committee on Finance; Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee; Committee on Veterans’ Affairs; and the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. Jobs and the economy continue to be Senator Heller’s top priorities.
Before being elected to the Senate in 2011, Heller was the U.S. representative for Nevada’s Second Congressional District. Heller also served as Nevada’s Secretary of State and in the Nevada State Assembly representing Carson City.
Since coming to Congress, Heller has focused on smaller government, the elimination of wasteful spending, and a balanced budget. Heller is the only member of the Nevada delegation to vote against the Wall Street bailout.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m., at Pahrump Valley High School. The Cooperative will have a number of exhibits for members, and staff will be on hand to answer questions. Lunch will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. The annual meeting will begin at 1 p.m. This year’s theme is “Evolving to Meet Member Needs.” Details of the major projects initiated by the Cooperative in 2016 will be highlighted during the event, including:
• Rolling out high-speed fiber optic communications to communities in VEA’s service territory.
• Lighting up an 80-acre Community Solar Project, which includes 54,000 photovoltaic panels.
• Creating the first vehicle charging station as part of Gov. Brian Sandoval’s “Electric Highway.”
• The opening of the Valley Conference Center in Pahrump.
Heller grew up with five brothers and sisters in Carson City, where he attended high school. In 1985 he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, specializing in finance and securities analysis. He worked as a stockbroker and as a broker/trader on the Pacific Stock Exchange prior to moving back to Carson City with his wife, Lynne.
The Hellers have been married for more than 30 years and currently reside in Smith Valley. They have four children.
