ABOUT THE COMPANY
 

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA), is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations.  VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).

VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), Valley Communication Association (VCA), Valley Electric Utility Services (VEUS), and Valley Electric Energy Services (VEES).

VETA (Valley Electric Transmission Association), is a wholly-owned transmission cooperative association based in Pahrump, NV, providing service to VEA and other entities. VETA currently has 324 miles of 230/138 kV transmission facilities. Current construction includes the transmission facilities and extending service to additional large scale customers.

VCA (Valley Communications Association), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and will offer commercial and residential optical fiber broadband service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit, to VEA members throughout Nevada.

VEUS (Valley Electric Utility Service), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump NV, and was established in 2013 to provide electric utility services outside of VEA’s electric utility service area. 

VEES (Valley Electric Energy Service), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and was established in 2013 to provide distributed and renewable energy resources within and outside of VEA’s electric utility service area.

Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance

Immediate opening for an Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities:  The Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance position includes managing and directing the daily finance and administrative duties of the Cooperative, by advancing the financial position of the Cooperative in a manner that promotes the strategic decisions of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Chief Financial Officer.  This includes direct participation in: accounting, investing, financing, and the purchasing and selling of power.  It also includes oversight responsibilities in payroll, credit and sales, purchasing and payment; the administrative departments to provide optimum service and maximum productivity through effective and efficient processes, policies and procedures; all phases of the cooperative’s computer and telecommunications systems to ensure reliable and state-of-art communications and technological systems.

Required Education and Experience:  The Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance requires a four-year college degree from an accredited university or college with a major in finance, accounting, or business administration.  MBA with a CPA highly preferred.   Must have 15 or more years of progressive experience at a cooperative or investor owned utility in supervision and accounting system design in addition to an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.  Must also have experience with financial statement preparation and reporting to management.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.  Must be comfortable with a large variety of computer programs.  A working knowledge of Excel, Word and Internet navigation software are required.  Must be able to develop Excel templates for variety of reporting and special project uses.  Experience with general ledger software is also required.

GIS Mapping Technician

Immediate opening for a GIS Mapping Technician to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: This position reports directly to the Supervisor of Lands, with specialized skills, knowledge and responsibility to analyze and administer geographic information system (GIS) data in support of electrical systems and communication networks.

Education: Associates Degree in Geographical Information Systems or Geography, or an equivalent combination of experience and education that satisfies the requirements of this position.  Bachelors of Science Degree in Geographical Information Systems or Geography highly preferred.

Experience: In the absence of an AA or BS degree, incumbent must have 5 years directly related experience working with GIS applications, e.g., GIS Technician.  Previous experience with electric utilities or telecom GIS and experience with automating workflows and implementing customized data models is highly preferred. 

Knowledge:  In-depth knowledge of GIS utilization and applications is required. Understanding of standard database management is required.

Employee Relations Specialist (HR Generalist)

Immediate opening for an Employee Relations Specialist / Human Resources Generalist to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

Under the direction of the EVP of Human Resources, the Employee Relations Specialist / Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the coordination and administration of human resources functions, including employee relations, labor relations, recruitment, retention, training and development, worker’s compensation, affirmative action and regulatory compliance.  The incumbent will provide specialized support and management and utilize judgement and initiative to make decisions on employee relations concerns, staffing, recruitment, policy and procedure development and talent management initiatives related to the Cooperative’s human resources functions, in order to ensure the Cooperative’s workforce is operating at a high level of productivity and efficiency.

Education and Experience:  College degree in human resources or business administration and 10 years of human resources experience, with a minimum of 7 of those years in a progressive HR generalist capacity with a strong Employee Relations focus, or a combination of education and experience that would provide equivalent knowledge and ability to perform the functions of this position.  Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) certification or equivalent, highly preferred.  Previous Union experience highly preferred.

Job Knowledge:  Considerable knowledge of human resources administrative, organizational design and development principles and practices are necessary.  Must have the technical knowledge to understand and relate state and federal regulations and laws, such as EEO, AAP, FLSA, ADA, COBRA, FMLA, OSHA, VEVRAA, etc.  Must have efficient working knowledge of MS Office programs.

Key Responsibilities:  Responsible for writing clear, persuasive, original copy and content for marketing and corporate communications; including but not limited to collateral, web, social media, advertising, magazine articles and press releases.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Journalism, English, Communications, or other related field, or, a high school diploma and 3 years of directly related experience in Advertising, Journalism, English, Communications, or related field.

Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the creative process.  Proficient in Microsoft Office, to include Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.  Strong analytical and listening skills, self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.  Basic HTML knowledge and knowledge of the utility industries preferred.  Must have good problem-solving skills, have effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership ability.  Must have the ability to; communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form. Key Responsibilities:  The Digital Marketing Coordinator oversees and implements the digital marketing strategy for the company to include Digital Advertising, Websites and Social Media.  This position assists in the development and execution of a consistent message across all digital platforms.

Compliance Network Administrator

Immediate opening for a Compliance Network Administrator to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  The Compliance Network Administrator will be responsible for providing the specialized technical skills and knowledge for the design, implementation, upgrade, configuration, and maintenance of the various enterprise hardware and software in the Cooperative’s industrial control systems to ensure compliance with Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and other technical compliance requirements of the Cooperative.  This position participates in the technical research and development required for the continuing innovation of the Cooperative’s network infrastructure and compliance program.

Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years’ experience, with 8 of those years of experience with networking architecture, server hardware and operating systems including, but not limited to; domain controllers, servers, security appliances, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and virtual environments (VMWare is preferred), or a combination of education and experience that would satisfy the requirements of this position. Experience with SCADA systems preferred.

Knowledge: Must be proficient in the utilization of the following: Windows Server 2003/2008 and Linux, Active Directory Administration, Microsoft Exchange Administration, Virtual System Infrastructure (VMware vSphere 4/5 VMware View 5), SAN Technology (storage administration, iSCSI, Fiber Channel), TCP/IP Networking, Disaster Recovery planning and strategies, Network Security, Simple and advanced routing including BGP and OSPF, Spanning Tree, VLANs, and ACLs. In-depth knowledge of DHCP and DNS, Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL and SQL Server 2005 database systems.  Must be willing to attend continuing education courses as required. 

Risk Assessment: This position requires access to certain secure assets and information.  As a result, individuals in this position must be able to successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment every seven years, as required by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) CIP standards.

Area Foreman - Fish Lake Valley

Immediate opening for an Area Foreman - Fish Lake Valley to work in our Fish Lake Valley location in Dyer, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  The Area Foreman works in his/her regular capacity of a Journeyman Lineman, with additional duties, which includes; scheduling and supervising the construction, conversion, relocation and maintenance of the electrical transmission and distribution lines throughout the area served by the cooperative.

Education: High school diploma, and qualified by successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and by written exam as a journey lineman required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Journeyman Lineman.

Knowledge: Must have a thorough knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, and services used by   electric utilities.  Must have knowledge of State and Federal laws related to construction. Must have thorough knowledge of the Description of Units, specifications and drawings for line construction of transmission and distribution voltages; and a thorough knowledge of operating and construction procedures and practices of electric transmission and distribution organizations.  Ability to deal with co-workers and customers in a courteous and professional manner. 

Other Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to possess a Medic First Aid Card (CPR inclusive).  Must obtain and maintain a current commercial driver’s license (CDL) per Nevada State Department of Transportation Regulations. Must have Certification for Fork Lift Operator. Must obtain and maintain an OSHA 30 Construction certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain federal security that satisfies the access requirements of VEA’s federally contracted installations.

Communications Journeyman Lineman

Immediate opening for a Communications Journeyman Lineman to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities:  The Communications Journeyman Lineman position will be responsible to provide the specialized technical skills and knowledge for the construction, maintenance, and repair of OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) fiber optic cable, ADSS (All Dielectric Self Supporting) fiber optic cable, and WIMAX radio equipment.  This position will also be responsible for maintaining their specialized technical skills and knowledge to work on and around the electrical system as a Journey Lineman.

Education/Experience:  This position requires a High school diploma, and qualified by successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and by written exam as a journey lineman required.  The successful applicant must be able to show leadership abilities and be knowledgeable on a variety of tasks required for this position.

Telecommunications Technicians

Immediate opening for Telecommunications Technicians to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: The Telecommunications Technician position will be responsible to provide the specialized technical skills and knowledge for microwave communication, two-way radios and wireless broadband technology, in-house phone systems, video/door security, LAN network and software support, system testing and programming including TWACS support, and to provide support for substation SCADA and control of regulators, reclosures, transformers, and other control equipment.

Education and Experience: High school diploma and an associates’ degree in electronics or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of job related experience, or a combination of education and experience that would satisfy the requirements of this position.  Previous working experience with wireless communications and computer networking is desired.  Additional experience with terminations of coax, fiber and data cabling and tower climbing experience is preferred.  Must possess a moderate amount of working knowledge of wireless technology.  Must have sound knowledge of the proper and safe use of the tools and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of wireless equipment.  Must be willing to attend courses relating to his/her area of work.
