ABOUT THE COMPANY
 

Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA), is a member-owned electric cooperative based in Pahrump, Nevada, with a certified service area covering more than 6,800 square miles in Nevada and California. VEA presently provides service to over 24,000 services with 2,120 line miles of distribution facilities and 13 substations.  VEA is a participating transmission owner and load serving entity in the California Independent System of Operators Corporation (CAISO).

VEA is the parent company to a host of wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Valley Electric Transmission Association (VETA), Valley Communication Association (VCA), Valley Electric Utility Services (VEUS), and Valley Electric Energy Services (VEES).

VETA (Valley Electric Transmission Association), is a wholly-owned transmission cooperative association based in Pahrump, NV, providing service to VEA and other entities. VETA currently has 324 miles of 230/138 kV transmission facilities. Current construction includes the transmission facilities and extending service to additional large scale customers.

VCA (Valley Communications Association), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and will offer commercial and residential optical fiber broadband service, with speeds up to 1 gigabit, to VEA members throughout Nevada.

VEUS (Valley Electric Utility Service), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump NV, and was established in 2013 to provide electric utility services outside of VEA’s electric utility service area. 

VEES (Valley Electric Energy Service), is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Pahrump, NV, and was established in 2013 to provide distributed and renewable energy resources within and outside of VEA’s electric utility service area.

Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance

Immediate opening for an Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities:  The Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance position includes managing and directing the daily finance and administrative duties of the Cooperative, by advancing the financial position of the Cooperative in a manner that promotes the strategic decisions of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Chief Financial Officer.  This includes direct participation in: accounting, investing, financing, and the purchasing and selling of power.  It also includes oversight responsibilities in payroll, credit and sales, purchasing and payment; the administrative departments to provide optimum service and maximum productivity through effective and efficient processes, policies and procedures; all phases of the cooperative’s computer and telecommunications systems to ensure reliable and state-of-art communications and technological systems.

Required Education and Experience:  The Executive Vice President of Administration & Finance requires a four-year college degree from an accredited university or college with a major in finance, accounting, or business administration.  MBA with a CPA highly preferred.   Must have 15 or more years of progressive experience at a cooperative or investor owned utility in supervision and accounting system design in addition to an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.  Must also have experience with financial statement preparation and reporting to management.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.  Must be comfortable with a large variety of computer programs.  A working knowledge of Excel, Word and Internet navigation software are required.  Must be able to develop Excel templates for variety of reporting and special project uses.  Experience with general ledger software is also required.

Senior Human Resources Generalist

Immediate opening for a Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: Under the direction of the EVP of Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Generalist assists with the coordination and administration of all human resources functions, including wage and salary administration, benefits administration, workers compensation, employee training and development, affirmative action, recruitment and retention, employee relations and regulatory compliance.

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge:  The Senior H.R. Generalist position will require a college degree in human resources or business administration and 10 years of human resources experience, with 7 of those years in an HR generalist capacity, or a combination of education and experience that would provide equivalent knowledge and ability to perform the functions of this position.  PHR certification highly preferred.

Engineering Technician

Immediate opening for an Engineering Technician to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  The Engineering Technician reports directly to the Manager of Engineering, and requires specialized skills, knowledge and responsibility for providing assistance to the Engineering Department to design VEA’s distribution system and provide support as needed in the design of the transmission system.  This position will also coordinate with field personnel and provide project support under the direction of the Manager of Engineering and other departments throughout the Cooperative.

Required Education, Experience, and Knowledge:  The Engineering Technician position requires an associate’s degree from a two-year College or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  The successful candidate must have previous distribution design or construction experience. This position requires the application of technical theory and practice in carrying out its responsibilities.  The Engineering Technician position requires the application of design standards and practice in carrying out its responsibilities.

Power System Controller

Immediate opening for a Power System Controller to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  Operate the Valley Electric Association, Inc. (VEA) distribution system and the Valley Electric Transmission Association, LLC (VETA) transmission systems as a NERC-certified system operator to provide optimal reliability for our members and customers.

Required Education High School Diploma or equivalent.  Must be NERC certified as a Transmission Operator (TO, BT or RC certification) and remain current on all continuing education requirements. 

Risk Assessment: This position requires access to certain secure assets and information.  As a result, individuals in this position must be able to successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment every seven years, as required by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.

Experience: Five years of experience as a NERC certified dispatcher at a utility with emphasis on operation of power systems, including; transmission, distribution, power marketing/scheduling, or balance and interchange, or any equivalent or related combination of education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for requirements listed above.

Compliance Coordinator

Immediate opening for a Compliance Coordinator to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  This position is responsible for supporting and implementing VEA’s compliance program for NERC reliability standards.  This position will assist in development and maintenance of compliance procedures and initiatives, create, gather, and organize evidence for the compliance program, track compliance obligations, and attend NERC and Regional Entity committee meetings, conferences, and seminars, as necessary. 

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor degree in Business, Legal, Engineering or related is required.

Working Skills and Abilities:  A minimum of two years in business or office setting with demonstration of ability to organize, track, and coordinate projects/records will be necessary.  Experience with NERC compliance, electric utilities, and information technology systems preferred. Alternative equivalencies to this experience may be considered appropriate and acceptable at the discretion of executive management.  Position requires good oral and written communications skills. Must have the ability to work independently, perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments described in the position description and be able to handle and prioritize multiple assignments. Must have the ability to make decisions and set realistic deadlines.

Accountant

Immediate opening for an Accountant to work in our headquarters located in Pahrump, Nevada. 

Key Responsibilities:  This position works under the general supervision of the EVP of Administration & Finance who reviews work through daily observation of assigned tasks, records, and customer/vendor feedback. Employee is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports that are to be used by management.

Education and/or Experience:  A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, with a minimum of three years’ work experience in public utility accounting or public accounting, with a preference of public utility accounting experience.

Knowledge:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information to customers, vendors and other employees. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices, budgeting methods, insurance, taxes, banking and other financial matters. Working knowledge of all office procedures, equipment, and administrative functions. Knowledge of data processing, information systems and internal accounting controls. Ability to communicate with co-workers, customers and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.

Valley Communications Association (VCA) will be providing fast, reliable broadband to businesses and residents throughout our service territory.  VCA will be bringing fiber optic broadband to every meter, apparatus and consumer throughout our service territory.  As this project continues, VCA will be building a dedicated team, with a number of rewarding career opportunities in the upcoming months with the following positions currently open in the fiber optic utility.

 

Broadband Engineer

Immediate opening for a Broadband Engineer to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities:  This position will be responsible for providing the specialized technical skills and knowledge for the design, implementation, upgrade, configuration, and maintenance of the various enterprise hardware and software resident in the Cooperatives Broadband Network infrastructure.  This position participates in the technical research and development required for the continuing innovation of the Cooperatives network infrastructure.

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge: High school diploma and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related discipline or a minimum of 10 years of job related experience.  Must have a minimum of 6 years’ experience with networking architecture, server hardware and operating systems including, but not limited to; domain controllers, servers, security appliances, Storage Area Networks (SAN) and virtual environments (VMWare is preferred).  CCNA \ CCNP or qualified experience with Cisco products, Alcatel-Lucent Network Routing Specialist I and II (NRS I and II) certification, and Service Routing Architect (SRA) is highly preferred. Must be proficient in the utilization of the following; Windows Server 2003/2008 and Linux RedHat, Virtual System Infrastructure (VMware vSphere 4/5 VMware View 5), SAN Technology (storage administration, iSCSI, Fiber Channel), TCP/IP Networking, Disaster Recovery planning and strategies, Network Security, Simple and advanced routing including BGP and OSPF, Spanning Tree, VLANs, and ACLs. In-depth knowledge of DHCP and DNS.  Strong knowledge of IPv6 and Alcatel Lucent Network Routing is highly preferred.  Must be willing to attend continuing education courses as required.

Communications Journeyman Lineman

Immediate opening for a Communications Journeyman Lineman to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities:  The Communications Journeyman Lineman position will be responsible to provide the specialized technical skills and knowledge for the construction, maintenance, and repair of OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) fiber optic cable, ADSS (All Dielectric Self Supporting) fiber optic cable, and WIMAX radio equipment.  This position will also be responsible for maintaining their specialized technical skills and knowledge to work on and around the electrical system as a Journey Lineman.

Education/Experience:  This position requires a High school diploma, and qualified by successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and by written exam as a journey lineman required.  The successful applicant must be able to show leadership abilities and be knowledgeable on a variety of tasks required for this position.

Knowledge:  The Communications Lineman must have a thorough knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, and services used by electric utilities.  Must have knowledge of State and Federal laws related to construction. Must have thorough knowledge of the Description of Units, specifications and drawings for line construction of transmission and distribution voltages; and a thorough knowledge of operating and construction procedures and practices of electric transmission and distribution organizations.  Ability to deal with co-workers and customers in a courteous and professional manner.

Telecommunications Technicians

Immediate opening for Telecommunications Technicians to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities: The Telecommunications Technician position will be responsible to provide the specialized technical skills and knowledge for microwave communication, two-way radios and wireless broadband technology, in-house phone systems, video/door security, LAN network and software support, system testing and programming including TWACS support, and to provide support for substation SCADA and control of regulators, reclosures, transformers, and other control equipment.

Education and Experience: High school diploma and an associates’ degree in electronics or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of job related experience, or a combination of education and experience that would satisfy the requirements of this position.  Previous working experience with wireless communications and computer networking is desired.  Additional experience with terminations of coax, fiber and data cabling and tower climbing experience is preferred.  Must possess a moderate amount of working knowledge of wireless technology.  Must have sound knowledge of the proper and safe use of the tools and equipment used in the installation and maintenance of wireless equipment.  Must be willing to attend courses relating to his/her area of work.

Broadband Installer

Immediate opening for a Broadband Installer to join our team. This position will be located at our headquarters in Pahrump, Nevada.

Key Responsibilities:  The Broadband Installer position is responsible for performing basic installations, disconnects, reconnects, service upgrades and downgrades, and relocates for residential single family, multi-family and/or multi-dwelling units and business (commercial) customers.

Required Education, Training, Experience, and Knowledge:  High School Diploma or equivalency and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in the field of broadband installation, including knowledge of wireless technology (Wi-Fi, point-to-point).  Associate of Science degree in a related discipline and 4 years of job related experience is highly preferred for the Broadband Installer position.  he candidate must possess outstanding interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and writing skills.
